Plan my item

Lines on it now

Tick Must keep on a line the plan may never take. Other lines, Greater ones too, may be taken and put back plain when that is cheaper.

Lines you want

The craft, start to finish

Base, four lines chosen, cube work while Rare, enchant, value reroll, socket, temper, aspect, masterwork, transfigure. The cube part is the only one with real luck in it, so plan it first.

What you need

  • The Horadric Cube. It opens as you play through the Lord of Hatred campaign and stands in Temis.
  • Primordial Dust, by grade: Coarse for Add Affix, Refined for Remove and the rerolls, Raw for every recipe, Attuned for the value reroll, and Pure, Enhanced and Volatile for other recipes. Dust drops as you play. In Season 15 Coarse gets rarer at higher difficulty and the other grades more common, and Cube Materials Caches from Whispers hold 2 to 3 times more than before.
  • Tuning Prisms: six of them steer the cube to one group of lines each. Which prism covers which line.
  • For the later steps: Forgotten Souls (Salvage Caches and the Undercity with a Tribute of Refinement), Obducite (Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and the same Undercity tribute), Neathiron (endgame bosses) and gold.
  1. Pick the base

Keep an item whose Greater Affixes sit on lines you want: the cube never makes one. A Rare or Magic item with a free line is best. A Common item works when you need no Greater Affixes.

  2. Choose the four lines

Decide all four, and which comes last: the easiest line, or the one your enchant will make. Order the rest so no reroll can hit a line you keep. The planner on this page works out the cheapest order; tick Must keep on a line it may never risk.

  3. Lock a line you might hit

If a reroll could pick a line you must keep, such as a Greater Affix, enchant that line first and choose No Change. Remove, Focused and Chaotic Reroll then never pick it (Maxroll's crafting guide says so without a prism; one test by the site's owner found it holds with a prism too). It uses your one enchant. The planner adds this step when it is the cheapest way, or when you tick Must keep on that line. Without Must keep it may instead take the line and put it back plain, and that step says so.

  4. Do the cube work while the item is Rare

Add each missing line with its prism. On a miss, Focused Reroll the new line with the same prism, or Remove it and add again. When two lines share the prism, Remove picks one of them evenly. Sometimes keeping a miss is cheaper: it blocks the rest of its family, so the next add has better odds.

Shortcut Two Chromatic adds on an item with no resistance always give All Resistance plus one single resistance. Once a single lands, the other five share its family and drop out, so All Resistance is the only Chromatic result left. A plain add hits it 1 time in 13.

Check in game Season 15's recipe list still has Royal gem recipes for the Chromatic prism (d4guides recipe database, patch 3.2.3). With a Royal Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz, Skull, Emerald or Amethyst, Add Affix gives Cold, Fire, Lightning, Physical, Poison or Shadow Resistance, and Focused Reroll turns a resistance into that element. Players tested it in Season 13 (Reddit, May 2026); we found no Season 15 report. If it works, one gem add and one plain Chromatic add give All Resistance plus the element you chose. The planner doesn't count on it.

Shortcut On an amulet with your main stat, two Adept's adds always include +Ranks to All Skills. A plain add gives it 1 time in 19 to 39, by class.

  5. Enchant the leftover line

Your enchant turns the one line you don't want into your last line. If you locked a line with No Change, the enchant is used up: that line holds your one enchant, so no other line can be changed. Each try offers two choices and a keep option, so the other lines are safe. Offers are weighted: Maximum Life or your main stat come up far more often than skill ranks or All Resistance.

Shortcut After the two Chromatic adds, enchant the single resistance into your fourth line. Or keep it: on its own element a single resistance is about 7 times an All Resistance roll (2,275 to 2,800 against 325 to 400 at item power 900).

  6. Reroll the values if they are low

Affix Value Reroll (1 Attuned and 100 Raw dust) rerolls the plain lines. It can roll them lower too, and you can't keep the old values. Greater, enchanted and tempered lines keep theirs.

  7. Socket

Add sockets at the Jeweler if the slot can have them.

  8. Temper

One temper per item: 3 charges, plus 1 per Greater Affix, up to 7. With 4 possible results, 3 charges land the one you want 58% of the time. A Scroll of Restoration resets the charges.

  9. Imprint the aspect

At the Occultist. Maxroll lists 25 Forgotten Souls and 1M gold on Ancestral (written before Season 15); check the cost in game. The item turns Legendary and Remove Affix stops working, so finish the cube work first.

  10. Masterwork to 25

The capstone adds 50% to a random line. With 5 lines (4 plus the temper) expect 4 rerolls. On Ancestral each costs 200 Obducite, 1 Neathiron and 10M gold; two-handed weapons cost double the Obducite and Neathiron.

Shortcut Want the capstone on a base line? Masterwork before you temper: with 4 lines it takes 3 rerolls on average.

  11. Transfigure last

One Volatile dust. It nearly always makes the item unmodifiable, so do it when nothing else will change. Never on a Unique you plan to make Mythic.

Questions

Can the Chromatic Tuning Prism roll All Resistance?

Yes, since patch 3.1.0 (Season 14). It weighs half as much as each single resistance, so a plain Chromatic add gives it 1 time in 13. With one single resistance already on the item, a Chromatic add gives it every time.

Why does the Protector's prism almost never give All Resistance?

The cube picks by weight. All Resistance weighs 33 in a Protector's pool of about 930 to 1,230 (Maximum Life alone is 300), so it lands about 3 times in 100. Players reporting 50 to 150 tries are normal bad luck at those odds.

When two lines share a prism, which one does Remove take?

One of them, evenly. With a single resistance and All Resistance on the item, a Chromatic Remove takes the single 1 time in 2. If it takes the wrong one, a Chromatic add puts All Resistance straight back. An enchanted line is never picked.

Does enchanting a line lock it from the cube?

Yes. An enchanted line, even one kept with No Change, is never picked by Remove, Focused or Chaotic Reroll. Maxroll's crafting guide says so without a prism; one test by the site's owner found it holds with a prism too. Lock a line you keep before you reroll lines that share its prism.

Why does the enchant rarely offer All Resistance or skill ranks?

Offers are weighted. In the game data All Resistance weighs 33 and most skill ranks 10 to 33, against 300 for Maximum Life and main stat. By those weights, enchanting a helm that has your main stat, Cooldown Reduction and a single resistance offers Maximum Life on about 37% of tries and All Resistance on under 5%; players report All Resistance even rarer. The planner gives its enchant tries as estimates from these weights and never sends a line of weight 33 or less to the enchant.

Can lines added by the cube be Greater Affixes?

Players report that they are not, so the planner assumes the cube never makes one. Keep the Greater Affixes your base dropped with, and plan the cube work around them.

Is this up to date?

It was checked for Season 15, patch 3.2.4, on October 28, 2026. Affix pools and weights come from the game data in Maxroll's planner export (build 3.2.1.73552). The date at the top changes when a new season is checked.
